Tare Market is Minnesota’s first zero waste store! We offer a wide range of package-free sustainable living products, as well as bulk shelf-stable foods and cleaning products. Our goal is to meet you where you are in your journey and help you find ways to reduce your waste and fight climate change. We also provide workshops and education to help you along on your zero waste journey.

We have two locations, one at 2717 E. 38th Street and one at 945 Broadway Street NE #103, both in Minneapolis. We are open Monday - Friday 11 am - 7 pm, Saturday 10 am - 6 pm and Sunday 10 am - 5 pm.

It’s simple! Just bring in a clean, dry, empty container and follow the steps below:

  1. Weigh your empty jar on our scale to obtain the tare weight, and write it on your container.
  2. Fill your container with whatever bulk goodies you would like!
  3. Bring the filled container to the checkout where we will weigh it again, subtracting the tare weight from the final weight, to obtain the weight of the contents inside. This way you only pay for the contents of the container!

Our staff are available to help you, so please let us know if this is your first time shopping when you arrive.

Don’t worry about it! While we encourage you to bring your own containers and bags, we will have options for you in the event you forget. In addition to the wide range of reusable containers and bags we have available for sale, we have paper bags for use, jars available on a returnable deposit system, and a community jar kiosk with containers that have been donated, washed, and sanitized.

We facilitate a class called Transition Your Home to Zero Waste. This class is an opportunity to learn about the zero-waste movement and simple steps towards eliminating waste in one's home. This class focuses on the beginner to intermediate “zero waster” and is 45 minutes of PowerPoint and 15 minutes of Q & A. We are happy to adjust the presentation to be shorter, if needed. Unfortunately, we cannot avoid all types of packaging due to FDA regulations, supplier policies, etc. However, we make sure to avoid single-use plastic and excessive packaging, and ensure any packaging products may come in is fully reusable, compostable, or recyclable. We also work with our suppliers to ensure they send products to us with the least amount of packaging possible, and we reuse every bit of packing material we can for shipping orders from our online store.

  • These bags meet composting standards for both industrial and home composting environments
  • Also suitable for anaerobic digestion (ISO 15985)

Your order will ship within 7 business days of ordering. We are a small team working hard and we kindly ask for your patience in a world where two day shipping has become the norm. We want you to be 100% happy with your purchase and offer a comprehensive return and exchange policy.

All sales on bulk items are final unless items are damaged. 

Items that are unopened and unused may be returned or exchanged within 30 days with a valid receipt or order number. The amount will be refunded via the original form of payment. If a receipt or order number is not present, items may be returned for a gift card of equal value.

Tare Market is not responsible for any packages that are lost by any mail carrier or stolen. We recommend that you reach out to USPS to file a claim for any lost or stolen packages.
